Course Objectives

  1. Explore and develop a beginning mastery of geometry:
    • What a formal mathematical system is and how it is developed.
    • Geometric definitions, axioms/postulates, and theorems.
    • Inductive and deductive reasoning (proofs).
    • How geometry is used in the world around us.
  2. Develop study skills necessary to be a highly successful high school and college student:
    • Becoming a Self-Regulated Learner
    • Effective note taking
    • Time management strategies
    • Effective use and reading of a math text book
    • Becoming "metacognitive"
    • Tracking self-efficacy as an effective self-monitoring tool

  • Online practice quizzes/tests from Prentice Hall!

Special Requirements

  • TI-83 plus, or TI-84 plus calculator
  • Graphing paper
  • Compass (able to scribe an 8" circle)
  • Red ink pen (for correcting homework)
  • Computer with internet access

Grading

  • 45% - chapter tests and quizzes (30% and 15% respectively)
  • 25% - homework
  • 10% - term final
  • 10% - classroom behavior and participation
  • 10% - study skills
