About Me

I'm a girl who never grew out of her horse phase. When I was a little girl, my grandpa would take me down to the barn and spend time with his horse, Susie. We often went down and fed her the fresh apples along the fenceline. My grandpa was no cowboy...he was a salty old fisherman, actually. But he loved all his animal companions. Without him, I don't think I would have ever come to love animals so much.

When I was about 8 years old, my dad signed me up for horseback riding lessons. I took group lessons with a few girls around my age. I tended to follow them around before lessons...desperate to make friends with girls who rode horses. But I didn't get to know them for long, because my first fall off of a horse caused me to fracture my wrist and quit riding for a while. But it was okay, I didn't like my trainer, anyway.

It wasn't until I was 10 or 11, I began taking lessons again. I nervously climbed up back into the saddle, struggling to keep my heels down and toes up in a pair of riding boots that were too small for me. I  may have fallen numerous amounts of times in a short period of time, yet, I progressed in my riding and developed a bit of confidence.

After taking lessons for a while, my dad decided to get a horse of my own. I spent countless hours searching and printing out pages of horses for sale off the internet. No horses seemed to be agreeable with my dad. Until a friend of his called him up, and said he just had a couple horses some rescuers brought in. We took a 3 hour drive to meet a very scrawny, sad and  dirty Arabian mare.  Long story short, that horse was brought home with me. I named her Delilah.

Fast-forward a few years later, and I became a Wrangler in Training at a western-themed camp called Miracle Ranch. I did plenty of horse and non-horse jobs alike. One of my favorite horses was a wiggly gelding named  Gabe. I still work at that camp, and see Gabe all year round!

I have never shown or gone to a horse show in my life. I lack a competetive spirit. I just enjoy hanging out and spending time with horses. As long as my horse is happy, I'm happy.
