CyberKnights reaching out to the community
Since competing last spring in the FIRST FTC Robotics World Championship in Atlanta, the King's CyberKnights Robotics team has been spreading the word and enthusiasm about how fun robotics is and busy inspiring the next generation of engineers!
Before school was out in May, the CyberKnights went over to the elementary school to demonstrate the robot to the 5th and 6th graders, and let the students touch and examine it! Many of these students had watched the robot compete live during webcasts of the World Championship and were very excited to see the robot in person!
During the summer, the team hosted three robotics summer camp classes for students ranging from 3rd grade through high school. The campers worked in small teams and built and programmed a Lego NXT Mindstorms robot that competed in a sumo-bot contest! There are some very bright budding engineers coming our way!
The team also built a proto-type of a Segway robot that can balance on two wheels! Watch it in action:
Two former members of last year's team, Faith Gleason and Natalie Kim, have started a robotics team for the 2010-2011 season in the Junior High - FLL team 8142! The junior high team will be competing in the FIRST FLL league and will be a sister team to the high school FIRST FTC team. We're hoping we'll be able to start a robotics team in the elementary next year!
The CyberKnights are busy preparing for the 2010-2011 season. They will be competing in Washington State regional competitions in early December as they begin the march to return to the World Championship in St. Louis, MO.
