How to do your homework
-
Homework will NOT be done on the BIM online site. You may use BIM as a reference.
-
Homework problems will be referenced by page and problem number from the textbook. You may use the physical hardbound textbook or the digital
version available on the BIM website.
-
Tests and quizzes will be done in class using normal test taking protocols.
-
Assignments will be found on AND turned-in on Teams. Teams will provide you a week-at-a-glance look at upcoming work. The class website Assignments
page will provide a long range view of our schedule.
-
Grades will be recorded and feedback given in Skyward NOT Teams. Do not look at Teams for grades or feedback.
-
You must show your work. Do your work on paper and turn it in on the associated Teams homework assignement.
Show sufficent work to justify your answer and so I can understand how you got that answer.
-
Do NOT submit in Word document form (.doc or .docx). Preference is as a PDF, back-up is as an image.
- I do not accept late work. However if you are proactive and connect with me before the assignment due date, I will
work with you/flex. I will still enter a zero and missing in the grade book (so I can keep track of things) but when
you let me know it is complete, I will update Skyward.
-
If Teams is down, use the hardbound textbook and check the class website Assignments page for the answers.
You will still need to turn in your work shown on Teams.
-
Just do it! Work the problems w/o looking at the answers.
- You may skip problems if you feel you have mastered the concept.
- You may NOT skip all problems.
- Make sure you can do the last problems in a section ... they are the hardest!
- List the problems you skipped at the top of your homework otherwise you'll lose points!
- Mark incorrect answers in red. This allows me to gauge how difficult the assignment was.
- Rework the problems you missed.
- Note problems you can't figure out at the top of the paper.
- You get full credit for the problems you correct before you turn it in!
-
Finally, once completely done with your homework, ask yourself the question
"If I took a 10 point quiz on the stuff in this homework assignment right now, what would I score?"
You are gauging your self-efficacy.
Then at the top of your homework write "SE:" followed by the quiz score guess.
-
At the top of your paper:
- Name
- Date
- Lesson number (see Teams assignment or the website)
- Self-efficacy score (SE:) per above
- List problems you skipped
- List problems you had a hard time with or could not figure out
- If you are stuck:
- Ask for help from your peers in the Student Center channel
- Make use of all the office hour time we have this year and ask me for help!
- Ask in our next scheduled class meeting how to do the problems you couldn't solve.
The point of homework is to learn how to do the math...my goal for you is that you understand!
