Get your laptop setup for Java programming!

I want to get this going as early as possible in case there are any problems. So please get on this ASAP so we have plenty of time to solve problems.

You will need to download and install two pieces of software: the Java compiler (known as the JDK), and a Java development environment (IDE: Integrated Development Environment) called jGRASP.

If you are on a school/district laptop, you will need to use the Software Center app:

  1. Run Software Center. Easiest way is in the task bar search (bottom left of your screen where it says "Type here to search") type "Software Center".
  2. Check if the JDK and jGRASP are already installed: click on the Installed Software tab and check the list.
  3. If any are missing, click the Available Software tab, find the item in the list, select and click INSTALL (bottom right of screen).
  4. If you are having problems, first see if one of your friends knows the solution. Otherwise contact the LWSD Help Desk at 425-936-1322 or ftaccess@lwsd.org.

If you are on a non-school/district computer, you will have to install this software yourself. Some of you may already have the JDK installed because of other software on your computer that is written in Java. If you think this applies to you, you may safely skip the JDK installation, although you may find that you need to come back and complete it anyway.
